The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine has not been approved or licensed by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) but has been authorised for emergency use only. According to the PPB, "During a public health emergency, the PPB can use its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) authority to allow the use of unregistered medical products, or unregistered uses of registered medical products, to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases when certain criteria are met, including that there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives”.
